A boutonniere is a flower that men put on on the remaining lapel of a suit jacket, coat or tuxedo for formal occasions such as marriages, proms, homecomings also funerals. The word boutonniere actually means "buttonhole" in French, yet you don't place boutonnieres through some lapel buttonhole while you wear it. You pin it to the lapel.

1 Put the jacket on or hang it on a hanger previous to you pin the boutonniere.

2 Take the boutonniere out of the box, and remove the pearl headed pin from the stem. If the boutonniere flower doesn't arrive in any pearl headed pin, you can get one from a local florist.

3 Place the boutonniere at any minor angle in the center of the left lapel. Meet the perspective of the lapel and lay down the boutonniere as flat as possible against the material.

4 From the underside of the lapel, slide the pin through the fabric halfway into the stem about the boutonniere.

7 Adjust the boutonniere flowers and greenery as needed.

Tips & Warnings

Make sure the pin doesn't stick out in the top or on the sides of the boutonniere. Don't pin the boutonniere through the key hole on the lapel. To avoid pricking your fingers, wear a thimble on the finger that is will receive the pin since you push it via the underside of the lapel.
